| Ubuhle's Policies |
Affirmative Action Policy:
The Directors of Ubuhle OCS Cleaning Services (Pty) Ltd, and the Directors
of OCS Group Ltd (UK), are firmly committed to the creation of opportunities
for the previously disadvantaged black community.
In this regard, the Directors give preference to individuals previously
denied access to mainstream business in both recruitment and appointment,
as well as promotion and training. This preference extends to Senior Management
and Directorship positions for suitable candidates. This commitment is,
in part, reflected in the level of resource made available in both the
recruitment and training budgets, as well as the appointment of a highly
qualified, dedicated training consultant.
This level of commitment is further supported by our International Training
Programme (ITP), which allows for selected individuals to travel overseas
for additional training and exposure to the International community at
the most suitable training center from within our world-wide organisation.
The implementation of our Affirmative Action Policy forms an integral
part of our overall corporate strategy and extends to the allocation of
equity in our Company to previously disadvantaged individuals who have
shown their commitment to the Company by whatever means. In addition, employee
shares are made available to similarly committed groups of employees who
have exhibited a level of performance that deserves the most tangible and
beneficial long term reward.
The Directors are therefore committed to true black empowerment and the
enhancement of the “quality of life” and general welfare of
the previously disadvantaged black community.
Our cleaning chemicals and materials are sourced from a B.E.E. Company
based in New Germany Kwa Zulu Natal.
Human Resources Policy & Employment Equity Plan:
The Directors of Ubuhle OCS Cleaning Services (Pty) Limited, are committed
to pursuing a policy of developing the PDI.
Ubuhle OCS is a PDI Economic Empowerment Enterprise, with 51% of the Equity
currently held by Mr. Welcome Gcabashe.
The future growth of the Company will be based on the existing combination
of a local PDI structure, supported, where appropriate and as necessary
by the experience and expertise of a large International Organisation.
Full International Training Opportunities, at all levels will be available,
and it is envisaged that the extent of support will be minimized over time.
Appointments are based on our existing Affirmative Action and PDI Empowerment
Initiatives, and will be made to cement our growth and ensure future prosperity.
Scope has also been created for a gradual increase in the Equity held
by PDI’s and this will be determined by both the success of the business
as well as the speed of transition.
Our two main objectives are:-
- To ensure that our workplaces are free of discrimination.
- To ensure affirmative action measures are implemented to ensure that suitably
qualified people from designated groups have equal employment opportunities
and are equitable represented in all occupational categories and levels
in the workforce of a designated employer.
We are in compliance with the Employment Equity Act/Skills Development
Act and have taken the necessary affirmative action measures to achieve
employment equity in the workplace.
Social Responsibilities:
Our policy is to provide our services free of charge to disadvantaged:-
Schools
Crèches
Charity Organizations
Churches
Community Halls
In addition we sponsor disadvantaged sportsmen and athletes in their various
fields eg. Comrades Marathon. Gerry Ngoveni who is part of our Cleaning
Team at Independent Newspapers has run the Comrades for the past 5 years
and has been successful in being awarded 4 Bronze Medals.
Environmental Policy:
The OCS Group of Companies continues to act responsibly towards customers,
staff, suppliers and the community, in which they trade, reflecting our
increased awareness over the effects of commerce on the environment. By
being sensitive to our environmental responsibilities, the OCS Group recognizes
this as a major challenge, both now and in the future.
This commitment is communicated with the full support and enthusiasm of
the Group Board to its subsidiaries and employees – all of whom are
accountable for the environmental impact of the Group.
This can only be achieved by setting the following objectives:-
- The Group endeavours to adhere to, and where possible exceed current
legislation. At the same time, we endeavour to anticipate new requirements,
and set our own where none exist.
- We endeavour to purchase from suppliers who share our concern over
the environment and take measures to ensure their own operations reflecting
this requirement. Whenever possible we use products from sustainable resources.
- We endeavour to minimize waste from our operations and where possible
we re-use or re-cycle.
- We endeavour to control the level of harmful emissions wherever practicable.
- We promote the use of energy efficient systems and reflect this in
our choice and redevelopment of factory and office accommodation.
- We continue to support Organisations that promote environmental protection.
