Ubuhle OCS Cleaning Services (Pty) Ltd was formed in 1998 and represents
a joint venture between OCS Cleaning
(U.K) Ltd, OCS Cleaning (S.A) (Pty)
Ltd (formed in 1995) and Mr. Welcome Gcabashe.
The original OCS Company was founded in 1890, when Frederick Goodliffe
started the New Century Window and General Cleaning Company in Holborn,
London.
 Growth was steady during the early years until 1930, at which time Office
Cleaning Services Limited was launched. This provided the opportunity
to expand into other areas of the county. This expansion continued and,
following the war, the concept of contracting out services accelerated
rapidly. By 1955, OCS operated a nation-wide network of offices, covering
the whole of the United Kingdom.
In 1960’s, the regular office and window cleaning services was
supplemented by specialist industrial services, laundries, safety and
access equipment manufacturers, as well as a comprehensive range of property
restoration services such as window manufacture and replacement and specialised
treatments to marble and granite. Security, hygiene services, catering,
aviation and airport services as well as plant display services and facilities
management soon followed.
An exceptionally strong asset base has been established and maintained,
due to a sustained policy of reinvesting profits into strategic growth.
Today, OCS Group Limited, is the largest privately owned property maintenance
company in the United Kingdom, with the business predominately controlled
by the third and fourth generations of the founder’s family.
 There are over 45 000 employees working in the organisation that embraces
over 50 trading companies and 4 continents. Operating from Canada, throughout
Europe, into South Africa and Far East, the OCS Group of companies has
an annual turnover in excess of R4,5 Billion.
Ubuhle OCS Cleaning Services is based in Durban and represents a partnership
in both national and international experience of almost 130 years.
It is a true black empowerment enterprise, with Welcome Gcabashe appointed
as Managing Director in line with his majority 51% equity share.
An ongoing transfer of skill has been implemented and will lead to the
creation of a wholly independent organisation.
